- Dec 7 at 11:00AM - Jan 12 at 5:00PM
- 51-53 Hatton Garden
The second in a series of new exhibitions at The Bindery, Aleph Contemporary presents a group show of three expressive contemporary painters, Miroslav Pomichal, Rachel Mercer, and Archie Franks.
Aleph Contemporary presents ‘Miroslav Pomichal, Rachel Mercer, and Archie Franks: Bread And Games’, featuring new works by three award-winning contemporary artists at the 1930s art deco building, The Bindery, East London. Each of these artists has a succession of notable exhibitions behind them, and each is the recipient of numerous awards including the Jerwood Painting Fellowship (Franks) The Mountridge Art Foundation Purchase Prize, Cello Factory, London (Pomichal) and the Hampstead Art Society Prize (Mercer). In an insightful text to accompany the exhibition, Paul Carey-Kent writes: “The participants in ‘Bread and Games’ have been well chosen… First, they are representational painters for whom the expressive act of painting is foregrounded, whose subjects emerge very visibly from their formal concerns… Second, the wider practices of all three artists engage directly with the traditional genres…Third, there’s a congruence of tone: celebratory, but with undertones that recognise darker aspects. There is pleasure, yes, but not without a flip side.” Read the text online and see the show as a virtual exhibition at alephcontemporary.com The exhibition can be viewed from 7 December – 12 January 2023 Tuesday - Friday 11am - 5pm (otherwise by appointment) The Bindery, 53 Hatton Garden, London.
