The first Wednesday of every month is Poetry Night at Caffe Lena. Hosted by Carol Graser, this event includes an open mic reading and a featured poet. Over the last five decades Joseph Bruchac’s poems have appeared in over 1,000 publications and been translated into over 20 languages. His more than 180 books in numerous genres range from poetry and fiction to picture books, non-fiction, and plays. His novel in verse, Rez Dogs, was listed by NPR as a best book of 2022. His newest poetry collection is Voices of the People (Reycraft 2022), verse biographies of notable indigenous people over the last 1000 years, accompanied by contemporary Native American art. CARL THE COLLECTOR, is a new 2D animated series for children ages 4-8. Created by New York Times bestselling illustrator and author Zachariah OHora (“My Cousin Momo”), the series breaks new ground as the first PBS KIDS show to feature central characters on the autism spectrum. Through its relatable stories, characters, and messages, and with a production team that includes neurodiverse writers, production staff, animators, advisors, and voice talent, CARL THE COLLECTOR showcases and celebrates our differences and commonalities, and that we all have something unique to offer. The series is produced by Fuzzytown Productions and Spiffy Pictures and will premiere on November 14, 2024, on PBS KIDS.


“By portraying a close group of neurodivergent and neurotypical friends, CARL THE COLLECTOR models how all of us can be helpful, supportive and appreciative of each other’s ways of thinking,” said Sara DeWitt, Senior Vice President and General Manager, PBS KIDS. “We are thrilled to introduce Carl, his friends, and his amazing collections to young audiences and help them build the social skills they will need as they make friends and engage in their communities.”


CARL THE COLLECTOR follows the everyday adventures of Carl, a warm-hearted autistic racoon who enjoys collecting things and loves his friends and family in Fuzzytown. Carl pays extraordinarily close attention to detail and comes up with unique ideas that others might not consider. These traits have helped him amass his extensive collections—from autographs and bottle caps to fake mustaches, pet rocks, sweaters, and virtually everything in between—which can come in handy for solving problems around the neighborhood with his friends. 


“CARL THE COLLECTOR spotlights neurodiverse characters while exploring and celebrating the entire spectrum of humanity,” said Creator and Executive Producer, Zachariah OHora. “The world of Fuzzytown is designed to be a place where all viewers will see themselves or someone they know in it. We hope Carl and his friends will encourage empathy and understanding, and ultimately show that everyone benefits when we recognize and embrace our differences.”

It’s a joy writing for this show and working with a team that includes so many talented neurodiverse people. I am hopeful that CARL THE COLLECTOR will expand perspectives of autism and neurodiversity, creating a better understanding and further acceptance for future generations.” 


 The series’ digital content for kids, families, and teachers, launching in tandem with the series, will reinforce its core messages of self-discovery and identity as well as recognizing and encouraging empathy for the many ways people think and behave.

The SOWAL Poetry Society, in collaboration with Emerald Coast Storytellers will be hosting its inaugural Poetry Night at the SOWAL House on November 6th. The event is set to evoke the spirit of the 1960s beat generation and is billed as a night of creativity and community for Walton County residents. Doors and Bar service will be opened at 6 pm. and performances will begin at 7pm. Each show will feature 10 selected performers, each given 6 minutes to present their craft, whether it be poetry, storytelling, or music. Highlights of the evening will feature performer introductions and opportunities to discuss their artistic processes. Background music and walkout songs will also be available for those who are looking to add a musical flair to their performances. Attendees are encouraged to support the SOFO community with a recommended $10. to $20. donation per person. QR codes will also be available. Emagine Entertainment has partnered with Folktellers Studios in Royal Oak to release “Hero’s Journey The Series -Simply Gorgeous,” a music-infused animated concert series that melds the magic of live performance with an animated film. Guests will be able to experience this event for one night only on Wednesday, November 6 at 8:00pm at Emagine Royal Oak. During this one-of-a-kind event, Slight Return, an award-winning rock band out of Detroit, will bring history to life on the big screen as they perform live in theatre, giving guests a live concert experience like no other.

Take a rockin’ ride alongside some of entertainment’s greatest artists…travelin’ along with them on their hero’s journey to fame and fortune. The “Chitlin Circuit” was the legendary tour route of juke joints and theatres that spread across the country. From the 1930s to the 1960s, it provided the place where black artists and musicians earned their chops and entertained the in-crowd.

Here, the musician, singer, comedian – and even more the emcee – could really make the walls sweet and bring down the house. Some of the greatest artists of all time came through this circuit. Notably, Jimi Hendrix, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, Marvin Gaye, The Jackson 5, BBK, Ike and Tina Turner, Little Richard, Aretha Franklin, and many more.

It’s fitting that the journey should begin with the man who knew them all, Theophilus O’Dell George aka Gorgeous George, and gave many of these artists their first call-up on stage that launched them to stardom.

Funhouse Comedy Club is back at Foxlowe Arts Centre, Leek on Thursday November 7th with a night full of laughter.

Topping the bill is Irish comedian and actor Paddy Lennox, a naturally funny man that oozes charm. He has appeared in BBC’s Holby City and in many television commercials across the EU. With his laugh-a-minute gags his gentle Irish lilt belies a mischievous sense of humour, leaving his audience wishing for more.

Opening the night will be a Very Special Guest, who has made several TV appearances including, ‘Live at The Apollo’, ‘The Mash Report’ and ‘Question Time’.

Also appearing is the incredibly funny cutlery sage Ian Crawford, with his unique safety advice.

Completing the line-up will be Jim Brown who claims to be ‘clumsily threading material through the eye of his comedic needle’. 

Compere for the night is the cheeky, chatty Dave Twentyman, who puts a big smile on everyone's face. Talking a lot about the subjects closer to home such as family life & friends.

The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra are joined by Alim Biesembayev, bringing the first symphonic concert to the brand-new Fareham Live with ‘Passionate Rachmoninov’ for an evening of symphonic greats.

Don’t miss your chance to see Biesembayev play Rachmaninov’s famous Second Piano Concerto, for which he gained international recognition after stepping in at short notice at the BBC Proms in 2023.

Mendelssohn’s sunny Italian Symphony opens with an extroverted burst of sound and its rhythmic energy persists throughout the whole work. 

Rossini’s sparkling overture begins slowly but soon builds a head of steam, getting faster and louder in true Rossini style, whilst Mascagni’s passionate intermezzo never fails to pull at the heart strings.
