On Saturday, September 24, 2022, the Maya Angelou Center for Health Equity and Triad Pastors Network will host, Raising the Bar for Black Men’s Health and Wellness: A Men’s Prayer Breakfast and Health
Symposium. This event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, 5000 Noble Street, Winston Salem, NC. Dr. Robert Turner II from the Department of Clinical Research and Leadership at The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Science will deliver the keynote address. The Breakfast and Health Symposium will examine the health of Black men across their lifespan. In the United States, non-Hispanic Black men have the lowest life expectancy from birth compared to women and their male counterparts of other racial groups, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Maya Angelou Center for Health Equity, in conjunction with the Triad Pastors Network, is in collaboration to create high-quality health educational programming to address social determinants of health and adverse health outcomes that directly affect Black men. Through events like the Men’s Prayer Breakfast and Health Symposium, the goal is to promote health literacy, healthy behavioral changes, and engagement in health programs and research among communities and people who are traditionally underserved. Raising the Bar for Black Men’s Health and Wellness: A Men’s Prayer Breakfast and Health Symposium is free and open to men 18 years of age or older. Free parking is available. Seating is limited.
